The World
What It Is
The Setting
Vancouver, Canada
A city populated with over 600,000 civilians, and over 31% of them are East Asian. It's constantly bustling with busy people getting to work, but friendly enough that they'll smile when you pass each other on the streets. Our main characters live in the central of town, surrounded by many other families similar to them.
Paula
Main Character
High school junior that is incredibly hard-working and strives for the best. She involves herself with activities like speech & debate and marching band. Her close friend at school is Jenny, her childhood friend turned debate partner. She has a shaky, on-and-off relationship with her mother.
Mom
Main Character
Mom... doesn't have a name in this story, because that's the identity she's been assigned. Her husband works abroad, so Mom is often alone when she's at home. She's strict and over-protective about Paula, but has good intentions behind her feelings. Mom likes to attend yoga classes and tend to her backyard garden in her free-time.
Jenny
Side Character
Jenny is also a high school junior that is a childhood friend and current best friend of Paula. She involves herself with multiple sports like dance and taekwondo, but most of her time is spent on speech & debate. She has an older sister that has done very similar activities.
